After restore apps not downloading
Any help would be appreciated! Posted on Nov 4, PM. Same thing here except some of my apps have downloaded. Some say waiting and other are stuck at the 7 pm position though the download. I even tried downloading iTunes Nov 8, AM. I am having the same issue with my daughters new iPhone X. She Upgraded from the 6s to the X and her profile and pictured transferred to the new device, but her apps are stuck and will not load.
AppStore will not work for updates either. Seems to be a problem with AppStore? Nov 10, AM. There's the "All" tab to see everything you've ever purchased even free apps and "Not on this iPhone" for things you might want to redownload. Ok, once you are there, you will see two things: Those with blue cloud with arrow down and a spinning circle with a part missing.
Here is what I found. After waiting all night for the apps to download, I started going through and tapping on the ones with spinning circles. About 50 of my apps we all of a sudden visible, ready to go. But after another day and a half, no more have appeared and the method I used does not work. Please give it a try and report back. I will get back here after talking with apple. I will reply to my own and share my saga, for those who are interested.
Nov 5, PM. Here is my saga and what I have tried so far. The methods are from the internet and some steps, like the "Free button, are not on my phone. I have tried on two networks, both 2. Started by restoring the iPhone from iTunes After 40 hours only half had downloaded. Very few apps ready after 12 hours. However 54 of them would show the word open after I tapped the spinning circle. For some reason the iPhone does not know when the app is finished downloading to the phone.
I downloaded iTunes However, the apps were not transferred from the computer to the iPhone and it started to download them again. To redownload an app, just tap on the blue cloud icon next to it. If the icon is gray, that means you can't download it anymore either because it doesn't exist anymore in iTunes or because it's a bit app that no longer works in iOS Tried dragging them from finder into the sidebar on iTunes when the iPhone was selected.
Method 2. Here is how to do it:. Method 3. Method 4. Upgrade iOS system to new version: sometimes new apps may not be compatible with the old iOS system. Anyways, the Restore gets stuck trying to download apps that are dead and missing from the App Store or that or incompatible with iOS You can tap on these and pause he download.
You should hide these by swiping left. Stop all the spinning circle apps. Hide all those with a greyed our iCloud. Hide any garbage you no longer want.
Delete any apps that are in the loading phase. These are probably the blockers that have gummed up the whole system. Do note: this completely obliterated the advantage of restoring from iCloud.
You will lose data, settings, and app layout. Extremely annoying. Nov 25, AM. Just got off the phone with AppleCare and now the apps are downloaded.
Suggest you call AC at if you have the time. After reviewing a number of things I had done, we did a hard reset. Sound up, sound down then hold the power switch until the white Apple shows. Still didn't change anything. When I clicked the cloud icon, it started downloading.
After two deletes, I just tapped on the blue cloud and it started to download. It appears it will only do one app at at time this way. You can select 2, but they download one by one. At this point, I went to the home screen touched a darkened app and it started downloading.
You can touch more than one but the download one ofter the other. You still have to reenter passwords and ID. Page content loaded. After 48 hours of frustration, the answer to this problem for me was somewhat obvious. I was upgrading from a 6S to an X, but when I tried to restore my backup, most of the apps were "stuck" in a state of loading.
Many of the apps need to be updated to the latest iOS, which is the version that was by-default loaded on the new X, and created an issue when trying to sync. Dec 20, PM. So basically what Apple has done is taken it the apps to transfer on iTunes on your computer and making you recover them from icloud. So if you will be working with them tell them to put the tab back so people can recover them off of their computer instead of the galactically slow iCloud!
This has got to be the worst move ever! Dec 24, AM. I followed James Mol's advice above and it worked for about 10 apps. There are another 30 that have the cloud and down arrow that either won't even try to download or just spin constantly.
But at least some got added. Dec 26, AM. I used a few of these tips like logging off in the app store with no results. I then stopped all of the apps trying to download, making all of them have the cloud icon next to them before signing out.
Waited for a brief moment before signing back in. I then went down the list of apps one by one redownloading and they all came back pretty quickly. Hopefully this helps. Jan 7, PM. After waiting for a couple hours for my Apps to restore, this is what I found with my 8 Plus.
Instantly the App became available. Well I think that might answer some questions. Installing the update and then stopping the syn probably corrupted the sync.
Your apps are NOT included in the iTunes backup. Apps are stored in the iTunes library and you have to sync the apps back to the device. Did you try just syncing again to see of the apps are restored? Page content loaded. If you are restoring form an iCloud backup, what I would do is consider erasing the device and start all over again. Your backup will still be available and trying to solve the waiting or stalled apps download might be a bigger problem that starting all over again.
Having said that, and assuming that you are restoring from an icloud backup, have you tried rebooting the iPad just to see if that springs the download back into action? Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons.
Let the iPad start up. Mar 26, AM. I'd first ensure you are connected to WiFi with good signal strength as this is an intensive amount of data you will be downloading. If that is true, i'd then reccomend rebooting the iPad Holding the power button until you get the red slider and powering off the device , wait 30 seconds and then power it back up.
It should resume the restore. Mar 26, AM in response to defjab In response to defjab. No problem. I made a quick edit on mine as well. Anyway, as they say I did just try the re-boot often a cure-all for many issues , and it did not help.
I guess I will reset to factory state and start again. Wish it didn't take so long largely thanks to my 12K photos. One odd thing that happened in the middle of the attempted restore: iTunes asked me if I wanted to install the newest iOS.
I said yes, assuming that's what I was supposed to do. In the midst of that process, iTunes said: Are you sure you want to install this new iOS in the middle of a synch? So then I thought I wasn't supposed to and stopped the install. I finished synching except not really as explained and did the new iOS install later. What is the best way to restore to factory state? I clicked Restore iPad on the Summary screen but eventually got the message that I had purchases that had not been transferred to iTunes this could be because I have another iPad and that if I restore to factory state, I would have to repurchase them.
Yes, trying synching again right now. Synching always takes a really long time for me, so it'll be a while before I know if it worked. Thanks for your help. I'll let you know how it goes.
I'll let Demo run with this, but I made a critical error I assumed. I thought you were coming from iCloud. That be ing said, so long as the backup is living on a Computer you shouldn't have to repurchase apps. You can transfer the purchases into iTunes before you restor the iPad. While the iPad is connected to iTunes, right click on the iPad name on the left side under the devices heading and select - Transfer Purchases. As long as you purchased all of your apps with the same Apple ID, it doesn't matter if you have different apps on 4 different iPads, you can always download the apps again without paying again.
Mar 26, PM. Although the sync got hung up and didn't complete, I got my apps back. Still don't have my audiobooks in iTunes, but that's OK because I can get them through the Audible app. Mar 27, AM.
